It can occur that a container is being rejected after a gas measurement due to a high concentration of gas. In cases like this, the container needs to be degassed at a safe location. The choice of this degassing location depends on many factors such as the nature of the merchandise and the type of gasses. Also the method of loading and the wind velocity are important to determine these locations.
Natural and mechanical ventilation
There are two possible ways to degas a container; through natural or mechanical ventilation. During natural ventilation, the authorized person who perform the degassing, simply open the doors and the gasses can fly away. In case of mechanical ventilation, the container is being attached to ventilation units that provide the container with fresh air.
