In early May, a direct train connection for fresh products from Valencia (Spain) to Rotterdam known as CoolRail, came into service. Three times a week, 48 weeks a year, a train with 42 containers is going back and forth.
This rail option is a very sustainable replacement of road transport, and just as fast.

With this modality, CO2 emissions are reduced by 70 to 90% compared to the same transport by truck. This would mean a total reduction of around 15,000 tonnes per year. More than 12,000 truck transports and with that, 22 million road kilometres are prevented.

Spain is the largest supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables in North Western Europe. There are plans to realize train connections to Germany, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom in the future as well.
